The blue in this image is out-of-gamut for the selected paper, and toggling the rendering intent back and forth led me to choose Relative rendering intent as a better match for what I wanted out of my print. In this case, Relative Colorimetric gave me a deeper blue at the expense of some loss of gradation—but since this is an image with little gradation, I decided that the deeper blue was more important for this specific photograph.

Next, select the Simulate Paper & Ink button in the Soft Proofing panel to see the soft proof based on your chosen profile (Figure 7-3). You will likely see an image that looks noticeably worse than the original (usually more dull or less contrasty), and that is to be expected with this option.
